The Used Book Connection was started in March 2009 by students at The University of Western Ontario who saw a problem with the current method of purchasing used textbooks. The purpose of the Used Book Connection is to provide a cheaper alternative for students to buy and sell used textbooks, and to raise money to help in the fight against Cancer. We provide the gateway for students to connect with each other and exchange textbooks. Students with used textbooks to sell can list up to five textbooks on this website for a flat rate of $5. Other students can then search for listed textbooks and contact the sellers to arrange a meeting for the exchange.

How Does This Website Support Cancer Research?

Half of the net proceeds generated through textbook listings on this website will be donated to SickKids Foundation. This money will help the Foundation with their mission, which is to inspire communities to invest in health and scientific advances to improve the lives of children and their families in Canada and around the world.

What Makes UBC Better?

We all know that buying used textbooks for school is cheaper than buying new textbooks. However, the traditional problem with buying and selling used textbooks has always been the high costs associated with buying and selling textbooks through middlemen. Western's Used Book Store, for example, charges a 30% handling fee on every book sold. The goal of the Used Book Connection is to connect students looking to buy and sell used textbooks for a low price. Listing fees on this website are very low: $5.00 allows you to list up to five books at a time.

Another benefit of the UBC is that when you sell a book, you get the cash right away. Many other used textbook services force you to wait months after selling your books for actually receive cash. Instead of selling the textbooks for you, we provide a method for students to find your book listings online. The buyer and the seller can then meet on campus to exchange books for cash.
